About WB Productions As a five-year-old boy, William listened quietly to the sound of his father playing the guitar, until he was sound asleep… William recalls this bedtime experience as being the first time he was drawn to music; however, his musical journey began at birth. Born to Louis Brooks, a blues guitar player, and Shirley Brooks, a singer, and growing up with many musical influences ranging from Gospel, Jazz and the Motown sound, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, William is a product of assorted musical styles and cultures. He picked up his first instrument in the 4th grade, beginning with the harmonica and quickly moving to the clarinet. At 16, for a birthday present, his father passed down his 1951 Fender Telecaster guitar. It was at this time that William found his ‘soul mate’ in his guitar. With his musical background, William taught himself to play the guitar and it was not long before he was playing professionally at local venues such as the Elks Club with his first band the “Dirt Clots" and various banquets and churches. By the time William was 22 years old, he was recording in Hollywood studios, opening shows for R&B groups such as the Young Heart, Bloodstone, Taste of Honey, the LA Boppers and working with various groups such as the Soulful Illusions The Bean Brothers and his favorite group Companies Coming. Eventually, William decided to combine his passion for music and his knowledge of the industry and at the young age of 25, he began managing groups, and promoting local concerts in the Pasadena area. His decision to explore the world of management and promotion was due to his experience and disillusion with corrupt business managers in the LA and Hollywood music industry. William was blessed with success, and continued to enlarge his territory with every endeavor he pursued. At age 35, he decided to put his musical career on hold so that he could continue his education and obtain Business Degree from Redlands University. For the next 7 years, William was intensely involved in his career, giving his education the same dedication he had previously given to music, and once again, he achieved success in yet another aspect of his life, but something was missing…. William felt an incredible void within every time he saw a performer onstage. He missed music. When he was 42 years old, William found God, returned to Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. William sought the counsel of his friend and pastor, and the words that he would hear next would change his life, and lead him to a new path…. “Play your Guitar for Jesus” said Pastor Dogget, and that is exactly what William has done to this day, never feeling more complete. For the past 12 years, William has played for the Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pomona, California and he currently plays with his band The Faithful Four. Last year, William came up with the idea of the Harvest Gospel Concert. He has said, “I am putting all of me in this, as a promoter and as a musician. “ William envisions a concert where everyone, regardless of his or her denomination, can come and have a wonderful time with their families, enjoying a night of great music, and at the same time giving praise to our Lord Jesus Christ and spreading the gospel through music. By combining the many skills and talents the Lord has given him, William’s goal is to use his experience to help young musicians achieve a musical success, and at the same time elevating church music to a professional level. This is his way of returning to the Lord for the musical and business talents that he has been blessed with. William Brooks is a guitarist and promoter, but most all he is my Uncle. Written by |
